British Council Pakistan Hosts Groundbreaking

On December 7, 2023, the British Council hosted the “Embracing New Trends in English Language Teaching Conference” at Avari Hotel, Lahore. Mr. Saimon Robin attended the conference, which focused on the future of English Language Teaching (ELT) in Pakistan. The event brought together thought leaders, educators, and key stakeholders to discuss the pivotal role of English in education, teacher preparedness, and innovative teaching strategies. Emphasizing Continuing Professional Development (CPD) for English language teachers in public and private schools, the conference highlighted peer learning to refine language skills. Attendees, including panelists from prestigious institutions, participated in workshops designed to equip educators with tools to raise climate change awareness, integrate AI and technology, and create safer, more inclusive classrooms. James Hampson, Country Director of the British Council in Pakistan, underscored the significance of the conference in benefiting learners, teachers, and policymakers, shaping a successful future for education in Pakistan. Talha Chishti, Head of English Programmes at the British Council, stressed the need to embrace new trends in ELT, advocating for sustainable policy measures to improve learning outcomes. The event united stakeholders from research, academia, teachers’ development centers, and government bodies, sparking thought-provoking discussions and dynamic exchanges of ideas to evolve ELT practices in Pakistan.
