History and Establishment
The Archdiocese of Karachi was separated from the Archdiocese of Bombay and erected into a diocese on May 28, 1948. Two years later, it was raised to the status of an Archdiocese. The Catholic Board of Education (CBE) was established on July 11, 1961, as a legal body to manage the educational institutions of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Karachi.
Purpose and Responsibilities
The CBE's purpose is to define a common policy, frame rules and regulations for staff, employees, and school management, and coordinate holidays, syllabi, and textbooks. It also serves as a coordination office for information and advice.

Governance and Committees
Under the direction of His Grace Archbishop Joseph Coutts (President), the CBE operates through the Board of Governors, Standing Committees of the board (Executive, Academic, and Finance), and the General Body. The General Body includes members of the Board of Governors, Standing Committee, and Principals/Heads and Administrators of affiliated institutions.
Compliance and Registration
The institutions of the Catholic Board of Education are registered with the Directorate of Education, Government of Sindh. All government policies regarding education are followed by the CBE, and the schools comply with government rules and regulations, with periodic inspections by government officials.
